Dr. Ronald R Bobay, Sr. born November 19, 1942, passed peacefully at the Hospice of St. Francis House in Titusville on February 20, 2018 where he was surrounded by family.

Ron grew up in Sturgis, Michigan where he attended Eastern Michigan University. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 and served as an Ordinance Supply Officer in Vietnam.  His awards for service include the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960.  Upon his return from Vietnam he was in the Michigan National Guard and where he was part of the peacekeeping efforts during the Detroit riots of 1967. 

 He married Carol Bobay in 1968 and moved to Florida to teach at a school in Miami. He moved to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University where he received a Doctorate from the College of Education with a focus on Exceptional Education.  

In 1978, he began his memorable 35 year career with Brevard County Schools- 18 years as Assistant Superintendent of Exceptional Education and 17 years as North Area Superintendent of schools.  He was a natural leader, beloved by all for his warmth, compassion and calm demeanor. He retired from Brevard Schools in 2013 and became involved in the League of Women Voters, where he was chair of the Government Affairs Committee.   

Ron was a board member on the North Brevard Commission on Parks and Recreation from 1996 to 2013.

Ron is survived by his wife of 6 years Betty Putman Bobay; and by Carol Bobay and their four children; his son Robert Bobay and daughter in-law Karen and grandchildren Mara and Carson, his daughter Tarrah and her husband Jeremy and grandchildren Kollins and Korra, his son TJ Bobay and daughter in-law Jen, his daughter Megan Bobay; his step-children Jonathan, Rachel and Joshua Putman; his brother Charles Bobay and his sister in-law Dawn and his niece Lindsey Bobay; his sister Marilyn and his nephew Jonathan.

A Remembrance Open House, for an informal reception with family will be held Friday evening, February 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Veteran’s Memorial Center, 400 Sykes Creek Parkway, Merritt Island.
