Obituary

Wilma Coburn Holman, 87, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Born in Cedar Key, Florida she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Holman, parents Myra and Douglas Coburn, siblings Susie Coburn Day, Henry Edward Coburn, Myra Coburn Castell and Tyler Lee Coburn.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Janet Bainbridge, her husband Chris and grandson Jackson of Titusville; daughter Karan Smith of Cedar Key, Florida, granddaughter Donna, and four great-grandchildren; Stepsons Lee Holman (Diane) of Coconut Creek, Florida, Bradley Holman (Lori) of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Gary Holman (Missy) of St. Petersburg, Florida and many grandchildren.

Wilma grew up in Cedar Key, Florida where she relished boating, fishing, scalloping and all that comes with living on the waters of the Gulf. She retired as Director of School Food Service for the School Board of Levy County for thirty plus years. She served as Senior Warden at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key where, in one instance, she refused to be intimidated by the Bishop of the Florida Diocese in Jacksonville during their search for a new priest. “I won’t allow you to talk to me like that. I am hanging up now.”

Wilma was a huge fan of the Florida Gators! Steve Spurrier’s departure was disappointing though she continued to cheer on. She had a great sense of humor, always put other people first, was active at St. Gabriel’s in Morning Prayer, The Daughters of the King, The Order of St. Luke and GLO, (Girls Lunch Out). She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and loved attending Jackson’s ball games, viola performances, and eating the fish he caught. She taught Caedmon Griffith to crochet!

Her family would like to thank St. Gabriel’s Lay Eucharistic Visitors for their prayers, visits for communion and support during the past several months of her life.

A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, 414 Pine Street, Titusville, Florida.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gabriel’s, No One Hungry or to The Daughters of the King.
