Obituary

Saralyn Lamb, 82, a life-long resident of Titusville died Saturday, July 13, 2019. Saralyn was born in Orange City, Florida.

Saralyn was a master seamstress, who at an early age began to design and sew her own wardrobe. As a teenager, she spent so much time at Grace “Ma” Wattwood’s dress shop, that Ma hired Saralyn to work for her. Throughout her life, she was drawn to other creative venues such as quilting and also painting gourds and making Christmas decorations.

Saralyn loved her work at Kennedy Space Center where she started as a secretary and retired as a manager. Saralyn’s adventures at the space center included a one-time stint as a security officer during a strike, the developer of an employee suggestion program, which within two years, was recognized as the best in the state, a mock astronaut during fire and safety training, and logistics management for shuttle launches. Even when she had assignments outside of fire services, her heart always remained with the crew. The highlight of Saralyn’s career was her receipt of the Snoopy Award.

In her retirement, Saralyn realized her dream of living at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, where she quickly became integrated with the locals, making enduring friendships. She entered the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil in 2009 and quickly volunteered for ministry at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesville. There, she taught Faith Formation, ministered to the sick and homebound, organized and worked craft festivals for the Catholic Women’s Circle and golf tournaments for the Knights of Columbus. With the Catholic Women’s Circle, she volunteered at Waynesville’s Our Daily Bread outreach to the homeless. She also lovingly kept the grounds of the church. When at home in Titusville, she attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mims.

Saralyn is survived by her son, Marc Lamb, and his wife, Fay, of Titusville, her grandsons, Corey and Ethan Johnson, and Ethan’s wife Jamie, all of Titusville, and by her great-grandchildren Jacob, Kaylee, Emilee, Micah, Abigail, and Kellan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coram Lamb, her parents Melvyn and Margaret Higgs, and her brother, Glenn Higgs.

Saralyn’s family would especially like to thank the nurses, aids, and other employees of Addington Place and La Casa Assisted Living facilities for their loving care of her during the last two years of her life.
