Sandra Pope Courson
Sandy went to Heaven peacefully Tuesday morning, September 4, 2018 after a 14-month illness from ALS disease. She was born in Jacksonville, FL May 1948 and grew up between West Palm Beach and Cocoa Beach, FL. After graduating from Forest Hill High School in West Palm Beach, she worked for Southern Bell as a switch board operator. She stopped working for a while after her first child was born, then started working again at Kennedy Space Center in 1982 for EG&G and retired in 2006 from InDyne Corp. Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Weakley and father, Cecil Pope. She is survived by her husband, Ted Courson; two daughters, Cheryl Braden of Merritt Island, FL and Kerry Courtney of Zionville, NC; four grandchildren Dalton and Shane Courtney, and Ryan and Randy Kaitlin Braden; two sisters, Joyce Peterson of Jacksonville, FL, Nancy Pope of Charleston, SC, and one brother, Fred Pope of Marietta, GA; three step children, Stephanie Annis and Kevin Courson of Titusville, FL, and Derick Courson of Seattle, WA, with four additional grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also leaves her favorite dog (Winnie) who was devoted to her. Sandy was a very hard worker, excellent seamstress, cook, dancer, wife, mother, grandmother and food pusher. She was devoted to all her family and to taking care of them.
