Roy Lee Whitson, 84, died Friday, October 8, 2021 at his home in Titusville. Roy was born in Achille, Oklahoma. He served in the US Navy in Norfolk, Virginia and after his service, earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State. He moved to Titusville in 1962 and began his career at NASA. He served as an Electrical Engineer specializing in radio and television during the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. He was also an Apollo/Soyuz Exchange Engineer with the Soviet Union. Roy received numerous awards and recognitions, including the coveted Silver Snoopy Award.
Roy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Titusville and active with the Garden Club there. He was a member of the Moonport Stamp Club, enjoyed N-scale model trains and was a cyclist. Roy also enjoyed being a docent at the KSC Visitor Center for several years following his retirement.
Roy is survived by his wife of 59 years Sandra, his children Jeffrey Bryan Whitson and his wife Jill of Titusville, and Cynthia Lee Fairweather and her husband Shawn of Parker, Colorado, his grandchildren Nathan, Jason, Kayla and Joshua, and his brother Henry Earl Whitson and his wife Mary Ann of Oklahoma. Roy was deeply loved by his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Roy’s life will be celebrated at 10am on October 19th at First United Methodist Church of Titusville.
