Ophia Daniel Stevens passed away July 12, 2021 in Arizona. Ophia was born on February 18, 1927 to William Jefferson and Effie Bell Gibbs Daniel in Holly Pond, Alabama.
Ophia, one of eleven children, grew up on a farm where hard work was a part of daily life. She attended business college after graduation from high school and worked at the Builder's Exchange in Birmingham, AL until she married AE Yarbrough. The Air Force took Ophia and Gene to Texas where their first daughter was born. NASA brought them to FL where their second daughter was born.
Ophia developed a passion for sewing as a young mother. She made most of the clothes for herself and her two daughters until she re-entered the workforce in the 1960’s after a divorce. She loved her job at Barnett Bank where she worked for 25 years. When not working, she dedicated herself to the improvement of her home in Cocoa, FL. By the time she finished she could have been a Master Painter; she was such a perfectionist. When asked if she would paint an interested party's house, she would tell them, "You couldn't afford me." After retiring from the bank, Ophia became enamored with crafting, especially Christmas decorations. She maintained this interest until she passed.
Ophia met Covington (Steve) at a Parents Without Partners meeting. The two married in 1972 and Ophia gained two stepsons. Until Steve’s passing, they enjoyed many years together taking camping trips and visiting family. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parent, her husband, Covington Stevens; her brothers S.L Daniel, Javan Daniel, Amos Daniel, Virgil Daniel, O’Neal Daniel, and Jeff Daniel; her sister Syble Bishop; and her stepson Crawford Stevens.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by her sisters Ellen Daniel Culver and Manyla Husak and brother Olen Daniel; her daughters Pamela Yarbrough and Patricia Dugan (Mike); grandsons Matthew Dugan (Indu) and Thomas Dugan; great grandsons Michael Dugan and Matias Dugan; great granddaughter Leia Dugan; stepson Bradley Stevens (Robin); step grandchildren Anita Chamberlain (Doug), Covington Stevens (Crystal), Brian Stevens (Brittany), and Justin Stevens (Mallory); and 10 step great grandchildren.
