Onofre Pastor Carrillo, M.D., died Sunday May 12, 2019 at the age of 91 while residing at the Autumn House in Melbourne, Florida. Onofre was born in Caibarién Cuba on October 18, 1927. He attended school in Cuba and in 1954 finished medical school in Havana. He then moved to the United States and completed his internship at Christian Hospital in St. Louis. He married Estela Rivero on July 1955 in Miami Florida. In 1957 he moved to Daytona Beach where he was Chief Resident at Halifax Medical Center and was also the physician for the NASCAR drivers. He moved to Titusville in 1962 and shortly after became the associate medical director for the Eastern Test Range with Pan American. In this post he traveled throughout the Caribbean and South America. In 1966 he joined the practice of Dr. Storey, Dr. Osmon and Dr. May. Later he established a practice: Drs. Osmon, Carrillo and Boodhoo. Years later Drs. Galfo joined this practice. He was medical director for Parrish Medical Center, the president of Brevard County Medical Society, and an active delegate to the Florida Medical Association. He was a physician and the medical director of Vista Manor Nursing Home. He retired from his practice in 1999 and fully retired in 2008 at the age of 80. Onofre was a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Titusville and a member for over 50 years.
Onofre is survived by his sons Onofre J. Carrillo and his wife Amanda, and Dr. Carlos A. Carrillo and his wife Tina, daughter Martha C. Steinle and her husband Derrick, and his niece Magda Piñero and nephew Ramón Portu. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. He was preceded by his wife Estela R. Carrillo.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11am Saturday May 18, 2019 at St. Teresa Catholic Church.
