Obituary

Nieves “Nicki” M. Schehl passed away in her home in Titusville, FL, on Wednesday October 17th 2018 at the age of 84. She was born August 17, 1934 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Rumaldo and Guadalupe Ulibarri. She and her husband David relocated to Titusville from New Mexico in 1966 during the growth of the space program. She is preceded in death by her most beloved husband Thomas A Schehl, son Stephen Peterson, and grandchildren Christopher Benninghoff and Chelsea Beck. She is survived by her ex husband David Peterson of Texas, 6 children Teresa Montero (CA), Monica Benninghoff, Naoma Peterson, David Peterson Jr., Richard Peterson, and Donna Peterson, and 3 step daughters Debbie Hahn, Cindy Dawson, and Tracy Beck.  Nicki leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. In addition Nicki leaves behind 3 brothers, Lee and Anthony Ulibarri of New Mexico, and Jerry Ulibarri of Orlando. She graduated from Rollins College with a BBA in Computer and Information Sciences while holding down and full time job and raising 5 school-age children.  She married Tom Schehl in 1995; worked in the aerospace industry for over 40 years and retired from her position as Duty Officer from SGS in 2005. She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 1969 to present. She provided photo and video services to many of the parishioners and church for their events and activities. Mother ensured that her children did their very best in all their efforts.  She encouraged athletics, academics, and volunteer activities. She loved to feed her guests, she the made the best Red Chile Enchiladas; New Mexico Style. Holy Spirit Catholic Church (Mims) will host a visitation on Monday October 22 at 11 am.  The rosary will be prayed at Noon and visitation concludes at 12:45pm. The funeral Mass is at 1pm in the church. Committal is at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Titusville following the funeral. In lieu of flowers a donation to Nieves’s favorite charities would be gratefully appreciated.  She was most fond of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Hospice of St. Francis and Brevard Aging Matters. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of St. Francis for their care and dedication as well as Viera Hospital 4th floor nursing staff.
