Matthew Fredrick Sokoloski

Obituary

Matthew, the son of the late Matthew and Florence Sokoloski, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2020 and reunited with his daughter, Lisa Carole.  Matthew was born (Sept  1932) and raised in Swoyersville, Pennsylvania.  Matthew is preceded in passing by brothers, Frederick and Robert; sisters  Florence, Teresa  and  Veronica.  Matthew is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Caroline, son Kirk and his wife Kendra of Pt Pleasant, NJ, daughter Susan and her husband Joseph of New Smyrna, FLA and 4 grandchildren, Joseph, Amy and her husband Nicolas, Allison, Mario and Christina and 1 great grandchild, Emma.

Upon graduation of high school Matt enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War and fought at the battle of the Chosin Reservoir.  He was selected to become a member of General  Ridgeway’s Honor Guard.  Matt’s early career was centered on the aerospace industry to include working at the Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo Missions to the moon.  Matt retired in 1991 from Southern Bell in Miami Florida and relocated to Mims.

Matt will be remembered as a gentle man who loved to sing and dance and was a loving husband, parent and grandparent. Matt resided in the Mims community for over 25 years and was an avid Dolphins fan.  Using much of his time to serve others, he volunteered at the Parrish Medical Center and The Brevard County Road Department Advisory Committee.  He enjoyed carpentry projects, working around the house and constructing holiday decorations for the family.  Matt will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Matthew will be laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a later date.
