Mary Jackson 90, passed away Saturday April 7, 2018 at her home in Titusville. Mary was born on June 11, 1927 in Buffalo, NY to the late Walter and Anna Jackson. Mary was a long-time Titusville resident, who came from Buffalo to visit family in 1962 and never left. Weather was no small consideration in this decision.
Perhaps inspired by the involvement of Ken, her brother, in the space program, she worked at the Kennedy Space Center for many years. For her contributions, she was recognized as the Manned Flight Awareness Honoree at the Johnson Space Center in Houston in 1990.
With characteristic gregariousness, Mary soon had other family and friends from Buffalo visiting Titusville, and she is responsible for many further transplants to the area. Through her legendary Buffalo Parties, many with New York roots first met in Titusville, and became fast friends.
Mary was an active parishioner at St Teresa’s. After her retirement, she redoubled her commitment to the church community, with special attention to its senior parishioners. This activity ran the gamut from organizing senior socials (that gregariousness again) to visiting the sick and confined. The community returned the favor when Mary herself became unwell, and that is gratefully remembered.
Mary is survived by an extended family and her nephew Dan, who lives in Prague, but was fortunate to be able to visit his aunt frequently in recent years.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday at North Brevard Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Thursday at St Teresa Catholic Church in Titusville. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.northbrevardfuneralhome.com
