Lowell Eugene Phelps, 86 of Titusville, Florida passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Lowell was born in Cedar Rapids, IA and grew up on a farm in Palo, IA. He was the oldest of three brothers. He graduated second in his class at Atkins High School. He spent four years active duty in the United States Air Force. After the Air Force he worked 26 years at the Rock Island Railroad.
He met Cookie (Darol) Hacker in the fall of 1963 at a dance at The Armor Ballroom in Cedar Rapids. They were married February 20th, 1966. Lowell and Cookie attended the Indianapolis 500 race for 50 years. Lowell loved cars, trains, Iowa football, and The United Space program and is politics. He was also a member of the Cedar Rapids Corvette club. At retirement Lowell and Cookie moved to Titusville, Florida to be close to a couple of their favorite vacation spots, Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach.
Lowell is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cookie, his brother Gary Phelps (Diana) and their three children and their families. Brother in law Steve Hacker (Pat), Mountain home, AR and their families and three children and brother in law J Hacker (Cindy), Columbia, SC and their two children. And of course their two cats, Mario and Blackie.
