Obituary

Lee A. Kapit, 79, of Mims, FL passed away February 19, 2024. 

Born January 21, 1945, in Miami, FL he is the son of the late Abraham and Leah (Marsh) Kapit. 

Lee held a Master’s Degree from the University of Miami and a Bachelor’s Degree from Barry University, Miami, FL.  Lee held many Aviation degrees including Type Rating, and Flight Engineer 727.  Radio Licenses 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class and ship to shore.  He was awarded the “Manned Flight Awareness” award the highest honor for a Civilian and his contribution to the Space Program.  His career included aviation, rockets and missiles, and his hobby was airplanes.  

Lee was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to all who knew him.  He was a very special person highly motivated but humble.  Lee was a role model to many.  He is deeply missed. 

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Cheryl J. (Waite) Kapit; his children Kevin Kapit of Mims, FL, and Kimberly Fisher and her husband Dustin of Belleview, FL; and his brother Mark Kapit of Orange City, FL; and many loving family and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his brother Gary Kapit, his grandparents, aunts and uncles. 

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 AM on April 12, 2024, in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US 1, Mims, FL.
