Joseph David Houellemont died on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the age of 47 after a long battle with a craniopharyngioma brain tumor.
Joe was born in 1974 at Cape Canaveral Hospital and grew up playing baseball, soccer, skateboarding, fishing, surfing, and riding his bike all over Rockledge, Florida. He graduated from Rockledge High School in 1992 and joined the United States Army to serve his country. He trained as a Parachutist in addition to his duties as Unit Supply Specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1996, and eventually found himself in Missoula, Montana where he managed a car wash enterprise while attending University of Montana between 1999-2004.
Joe learned he had a craniopharyngioma brain tumor while in his last semester of college in 2003. Despite a delay in school while Joe recovered from brain surgery to remove his tumor, he was able to complete his final college semester and graduate with a B.S. in Geology in May 2004.
In 2004, Joe took a job in Portland, Oregon as a professional geologist. He soon learned his brain tumor had returned and he required more surgeries and aggressive treatments. In 2006, Joe drove across the country with his beloved cat Leo and returned to his Rockledge hometown, where he lived with his mother and step-father, Linda and Cliff Williams, until his passing.
Joe is also mourned by his father and step-mother, Bill and Kimberly Houellemont; his sister Kimberly & half-sister Marze and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Antonio & Francia Houellemont, Joseph & Gladelle Caldwell, and his cousin Ramon Mella.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 2nd at 12:30pm at New Fellowship Baptist Church, followed by Military Honors and burial at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims at 2pm.
