Obituary

Mr. Johnny L. Curry was born on May 4, 1954, to Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Curry (spouse Jimmie L. Banks-Curry) in Dallas, Texas as a sibling to two brothers and two sisters.  He matriculated college at Prairie View A&M University in Dallas, TX with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology.  He moved to Lompoc, CA where he met his soon to be wife Harriette Stiles who is from Miami, FL.  He worked at Vandenberg Airforce base as a mechanical engineer in Vandenberg California. He began as a volunteer fire fighter/EMT and was eventually promoted to reserve lieutenant with Santa Barbara County fire department in Vandenberg Village, California. He attended True Vine Baptist Church in Lompoc, CA as an active church member he gave his life to Christ and served as an usher and singing base in his church choir. The love story grew from there where he and his bride were married in holy matrimony on May 13, 1978, and God blessed them with two beautiful children: his daughter, Vanessa Curry, and his son Robert Curry.

Years later, they would move to Titusville, FL where Mr. Curry would work for Lockheed Martin, United Space Alliance, and Deck IV at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL, as a mechanical engineer.  He continued his love of service to the community by volunteering as a volunteer firefighter/EMT at the City of Titusville fire department, singing in the church choir, and serving as an usher at New Life Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Curry would tell the story as often as he could of how he and his wife fell in love and got married always referring to her as “his bride” after 43 years of marriage.  This Friday, May 13th, 2022, is celebrated as their 44th wedding anniversary.

Throughout his entire life, he always had a positive demeanor despite how he felt.  When asked how he was doing, he would always say “I’m outstanding”. Mr. Curry is the epitome of what a husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, friend, and member of the church and community member is. He will be remembered for his hazel eyes, bass singing voice, his cool and quiet demeanor and attitude, his selflessness, friendship, active community member, sacrifice, work ethic, love, and heart for God, his wife, his children, family, and for others. But more than anything, he will be remembered for calling the one woman who captured his heart the first moment they met and meant more to him than anyone else his wife, his bride, Mrs. Harriette Curry.

Mr. Curry is survived by his wife Mrs. Harriette Curry, children: Vanessa Curry and Robert Curry, his brother Dr. Wesley Curry (spouse Sharon Curry), two sisters Katherine Taylor, and Doris Lee (spouse Robert Lee), his brother-in-law Anthony Stiles (spouse Anita Stiles), sister-in-law Dr. Norma Stiles, and God son Larry Edgecombe, Jr. and countless nieces, nephews, and relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his younger brother Jessie Curry and by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Curry, Sr, parents in law Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stiles, sister-in-law Vivian Stiles-Williams, and brother-in-law Gregory Stiles.
