Obituary

John Dudley Howard, 92, passed away at home to be with his Lord on February 15, 2020.  John was born in Harlan, Kentucky on July 14, 1927 and he attended Harlan High School and Eastern State University. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey and Rosa Lea Howard, his dearly loved wife and son, Glynna Faye and John Keith Howard, his brothers Ralph Howard and Allen Howard, his sisters Inez Rowlette and Peggy Richardson. He is survived by his two daughters Vicki (Wally) Norwich and Judith (John) Kaufman, three grandchildren, John Matthew (Carolyn) Howard and Stas and Valeria Norwich and two sisters Delores Hickey and Norma Howard and one brother George Howard as well as many nephews and nieces. He was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II and he was an active participant in the A bomb tests at Bikini Atoll.  He worked for 31 years for an insurance company as an agent, staff manager, district manager, and an officer of the company before retiring.  He lived with his family in Harlan, Kentucky, Nashville, Tennessee, and Kingsport, Tennessee before moving to Titusville in 1990. He was a member of the Grandview Baptist Church in Nashville.  For many years he has been a member and a past master of the Harlan Masonic  Lodge 819 in Baxter, Kentucky.  In Titusville he was a member of the American Legion Post 1, VFW Post 4228, and the Indian River Moose Lodge 2304. John will be very much missed.  His storytelling was notorious and his love of people will always be cherished in the book called Memories that he wrote for his family.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Titusville.
