Jimmy Ray Akins, 80, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019, at his home in Titusville, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born in Talihina, OK on December 28, 1938. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail Akins and daughters Debra Akins, Donna Akins Campbell (Kevin), Lori Akins Ginn (Gary) and grandchildren Jack, Annie and Luke Ginn, all of Titusville. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Akins and Elzora Alexander Fulton.
Jim attended college at Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, OK and Daytona State college, where he obtained his journeyman’s electrician license. He later felt called to ministry and after attending Fruitland Baptist Bible College in Hendersonville, NC, Jim served full-time in children’s ministry at Morgan Memorial Baptist Church (Greenville, SC), Geer Memorial Baptist Church (Easley, SC ) and Second Baptist Church (Hot Springs, AR). He also spent nearly 25 years at Kennedy Space Center with EG&G and Space Gateway Support.
A private burial will take place at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Redeemer Church, 3580 S. Park Ave., Titusville, FL at 10:30 a.m.
