Port St. John, FL - Jay Edgar Phillips, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 11, 2020 in his home. He was born in Muncie, IN on July 26,1948 to John Edgar Phillips and Bessie Agnes (Caster) Phillips. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1966 and Porter Business College in 1967. He joined the US Navy in April 1968 where he became a Yeoman Chief Petty Officer. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal. He retired after 20 years on April 1988. He had a very giving heart and was always willing to help anyone whether it was rides to and from the airport or just picking up groceries. He enjoyed being a Florida resident and would begin every phone call with “Checking in from sunny Florida”. He was a long time Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce Partner. He volunteered with the CBRCC Ambassadors; CVB Tourist Information Center & CVB Kiosk at the Exploration Tower; Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida for approx. 20 years; Volunteer Chairman for USAF Space and Missile Museum and History Center and volunteered in the Gift Shop in both locations; AVET Project at Patrick Air Force Base; USO of Central Florida just to name a few. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a brother Rodney Phillips (wife, Darlene) of Muncie; sister Joyce A. Tapy (husband Eugene A.) of Albany; niece Brenda Craig (husband Mike) of Bloomington; nephew Brian Phillips of Muncie; niece Erin E. Tapy of Albany; several great nieces and nephews.
