J. William "Bill" Johnson

J  William Johnson, MD, passed away at home on Saturday, July 17, 2021 after a lengthy period of illness. Born July 25, 1936 in Evanston, Illinois, he is survived by his  loving wife of almost 59 years, Margery (Henderson), by his son, Pierre M Johnson, MD and his children, Luc and Sophia, his daughter, Mariette Wharton (Scott) and their children, Dane and Reid, and by twin sisters, Mary and Kathleen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert H Johnson.

He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., Yale University (BA), and the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium (MD). After internship at the University of Manitoba (Canada) and residency and fellowship at the Menninger Foundation, he had a distinguished career as a general and child psychiatrist, including academic appointments at Weill Cornell Medical College and the University of Florida. He was Chief of the Medical Staff at Atascadero State Hospital (Calif.) and child psychiatrist at Devereux Children's Hospital in Melbourne.  He was a member of the medical staff at Parrish Medical Center, served on the Parrish Board of Directors, and enjoyed his private practice in Titusville. He was certified by four professional medical boards: Psychiatry and Neurology, Child Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Forensic Psychiatry, but was perhaps most proud of having earned his Eagle Scout award at age 14 and always strove to live by the Scout Laws.

His service dog, Nellie, was his constant companion for the past ten years.

Funeral arrangements are handled by North Brevard Funeral Home, with visitation Friday, July 23, 4-6 PM and a Funeral Service on Saturday, July 24 at 2 PM. The service will also be live-streamed at www.northbrevardfuneralhome.com.
