In the early morning hours of August 17th, 2021, Herbert “Herb” Brown went home to be with the Lord.
He was born in Franklin County, Columbus, Ohio to Ennis and Stella Margaret (Tussey) Brown on June 24th,1935. As a youngster, he was honored as being the General Mills’ “Jack Armstrong” All-American Boy in Columbus. He won a sleeping bag and a baseball glove. Another accolade of his youth was winning a yo-yo championship. Many will remember that he carried a yo-yo in his pocket and would break it out upon request.
Herb attended West High School, class of 1953, where he was a standout athlete playing baseball and basketball. Out of high school, he worked for Westinghouse Corp. in Columbus before entering the US Navy. He was stationed at Naval Air Station, Port Lyautey, Morocco, North Africa. While there, he played football, winning the 1956 championship!
After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Columbus where he not only graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, but he married the love of his life Lois Lemmon in the fall of 1961.
After graduation, they moved to Clearwater, Florida, where he went to work for Honeywell. After a brief stint in Clearwater, they moved to Titusville, Florida where he began a 28-year career as an electrical engineer for NASA. He worked on Apollo, Spacelab, Space Shuttle, and many other missions and programs during his career. He was a dedicated Dad by volunteering for everything, such as Indian Guide leader, Little League baseball coach, Pop Warner football coach, and always served as one of the neighborhood “go-to” guys if anything needed to be fixed. Besides his family, he loved being on any golf course and most of all watching anything and everything Ohio State sports. We will miss him this year when the Buckeyes play the “team up North”, in late November, but we’ll save a spot for him on the couch. O - H.
Herb was preceded in death by his one true love, Lois, his father, Ennis, and mother, Stella, as well as three of his older brothers: Bob, Dick and Bill.
Herb is survived by his sons, Jeff (Debbie), and Danny (JoAnna), grandchildren, Kalyn, Justin, Olivia and Brighton and a great granddaughter, Willow. He is also survived by his older brother, John (Anne) Brown.
A celebration of life for Herb will take place at 3 pm Saturday, January 15th, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church, in Titusville, FL. The family would be grateful for all who may be able to attend.
