George Vanderwerken, 87 of Titusville, passed away Tuesday November 10, 2020 at VITAS Hospice in Rockledge, Florida. George was born in Fenner, New York and grew up on a farm in the small town of Durhamville. He was the youngest of seven brothers and also had a younger sister. Life on the farm was tough as most of his spare time was spent working on the farm along with his family. George still managed to find the time to attend school and even meet the love of his life, June, who he would eventually marry and spend the rest of his life with. He was always hard working and skilled at working with his hands which led him to obtain a job at the Oneida Company as a Machinist.
George went on to serve 2 years in the U.S. Army as a mechanic which included service in the Korean War. After the Army, he moved to Orlando in 1962 and then to Titusville in 1970. His experience and skills led him to obtain a machinist position for Florida Power and Light where he would later retire.
George loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He also enjoyed keeping busy working around the house, repairing anything that was broken and helping others. He was active with First Baptist Church of Mims and his desire to help others led him to become a Deacon.
George’s life and career provided everyone he knew countless stories to tell. His stories were always impressive and humorous and left everyone wanting to hear more. However, even more impressive than his stories was the type of man he was. George was always a hard worker, dedicated loving father and husband and loved to joke around and make people laugh. He always went out of his way to help people and his character was always someone you could depend on. George was truly a blessing and will be extremely missed. His legacy and life and will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.
George is survived by his wife of 68 years June, his son Ronald and wife Brenda, his daughters Sharon and Brenda, his son Daniel, his five grandchildren, Holly, Miranda, Angelina, Christina and John and two great grandsons, Julian and Jensen.
