Obituary
Doris Russell Dalton, of Altavista, Virginia, passed away on June 8, 2022. She was 88 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carvol Alton Dalton, her daughter, Patricia Rush
and all of her four siblings, Marjorie Hutcherson and Stanley Russell, both of Altavista, Donald
Russell of Lynchburg, Virginia and William Russell of Norfolk, Virginia.
Doris Joan Russell was born August 6, 1933, to Emma Gertrude Owen and Archie Dorris Russell.
She lived most of her life in Altavista, Virginia, where she met and married the love of her life,
Carvol Alton Dalton. They were both active members of New Prospect Baptist Church in Hurt,
VA. They spent the latter years of their lives together in Titusville, Florida,
surrounded by family, friends and warm sunshine.
Doris was many things to many people and had many wonderful qualities. She was “Mom” to
Joan Loyd (Gene) of Titusville, Florida, Patricia Rush (Randolph) of Petersburg, Virginia, Kim
Holda (Douglas) of Northport, Florida and Rusty Dalton of Philadelphia, PA. She was a devoted
home maker who loved to cook and garden and also worked for General Electric in Lynchburg,
Virginia for 30 plus years.
“Gran”, “granny” or “hootie” to 8 grand-children and 18 great-grandchildren, she was happiest
with her extended family and especially loved holidays and cooking and
shopping and stirring up some good-hearted excitement and lively discussion.
“Friend” to many, dog mom to “Rosie”, her 8 year-old Shih Tzu and “Aunt Doris” to many loving
nieces and nephews, Doris loved her family and friends and cared deeply about everyone she met.
A celebration of life will be held on August 6, 2022, at 11 AM in Altavista,
Virginia at Green Hill Cemetery, 300 Westwood Drive. Food, fellowship and details to follow at
