Obituary

Delmar Hardin Coffey, 86, passed away on January 2, 2022 at Hospice of St. Francis in Titusville, Florida.  He was born on December 11, 1935 to the late Parker and Milda Coffey in Banner Elk, North Carolina.  Delmer went to Lee’s-McRae College where he played football.  He joined the United States Army and served in Europe from 1954-1956.  He finished his bachelor’s degree at East Tennessee State University.  Wernher Von Braun visited his class and while there asked his class to come work at the Space Center.  Delmer married Margaret Cable in 1958 in Gaffney, South Carolina.  Delmer taught mathematics at Colonial High School for seven years.  He joined ITT at Cape Canaveral as a Mathematical engineer.  There he received the “Prestigious Silver Snoopy Award” for his work on Skylab.  He later worked for Rockwell.  Delmer was also a member of the Elks club. 

Delmer was preceded in death by his son, Michael Coffey.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret; His beloved daughter, Susan Coffey Marlowe; His sister, Mary Lou-Coffey Griffin and brother-in-law, John Griffin.
