Charles Joseph “Mitch” Mitchell, 88, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 5, 2018. He was born in Trenton, NJ and served 6 years overseas with the 753rd AAA Gun Brigade, U.S. Army. Mitch worked for ABC Network (NYC) as a Field Engineer and Cameraman, retiring after 25 years of service. The highlights of his career were coverage at five Apollo space launches, Monday Night Football, Wide World of Sports, Winter and Summer Olympics, Good Year Blimp, Kentucky Derby, and presidential inaugurations/weddings. He graciously took family members along on many of his ABC event coverage travels. Mitch was very proud to be a Master Mason and Shriner. He was President of North Shore Shrine Club (NJ) in 1978, President of North Brevard Shrine Club (FL) in 2002, and was recognized for completing 29 transports to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa. Mitch is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jean; a brother Robert Mitchell in FL, three sisters Jan (John) LaVance in NJ, Beverly Mitchell in FL, and Sally (Paul) Skliris in FL; three sons from his first marriage, Charles (Susan) Mitchell in NJ, William Mitchell in FL, Michael (Lisa) Mitchell in NC, and daughter Donna Dirkes in IN; two daughters from his second marriage, Ginger (George) Vincent in FL and Mari Lou (Glenn) Morgan in NJ, and one son Ralph Knappenberger in NM; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 17, from 3:30-7PM at North Brevard Shrine Club, 545 North Titusville Ave, Titusville, FL 32796.
