Bobby Ross Huffman was called home by the Lord at the age of 88 on August 19, 2021. He was born Sept. 19, 1932 in Donie, Texas to William Clarence and Laura Mae Huffman. Bob was the 4th of 6 children with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Bob graduated from Teague High School in 1949 and earned a BSEE degree from Southern Methodist University in 1959. Bob worked for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Dallas, Texas from 1950 to 1952. Bob served in the army as a radar mechanic from 1952 to 1954. During this time, he spent 15 months in Japan during the Korean conflict. Bob moved to Florida in 1959 to work in the space program which was just getting started. Bob remained active in the space program for 34 years. He worked on the Redstone, Mercury, Saturn, Apollo, Skylab, Spacelab and Orbiter programs and retired in 1993. Bob married Mildred Lanell Hensel in Killeen, Texas on April 9, 1955 and they had 4 children (Byron, Neal, Karen, Daryl). Bob was a loving, caring father to the children and a faithful loving husband to Mildred. Bob enjoyed woodworking for many years, reading fiction (especially Louis LaMour westerns) and religious books and articles, putzing on the computer, tent camping for a time, and especially time spent at their log cabin in North Carolina. Bob is survived by Mildred, son Byron (Lori) of Texas, son Neal (Beth) of Texas, daughter Karen (Donnie) of Orlando, Fla., son Daryl (Paula) of North Carolina. Sister Bonnie of Missouri, brother Jim D. of Texas, eleven grandchildren, 3 grandsons-in-law, 5 granddaughters-in-law, and 12 great grandchildren with a 13th due in October. A memorial service is planned for Nov. 6, 2021 at 11:00 am at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville, Florida. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Hospice of St. Francis, Inc. at 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, FL 32780.
