Betty Higdon

TITUSVILLE – Betty D. Higdon, 85, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2021, at Crescent Wood Eagle Senior Living.  Betty was born on July 20, 1936, to Silas and Agnes (Specht) Duncan in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

          Betty spent her childhood in Hendersonville where she enjoyed country living and attended Grace Lutheran Church.  She graduated from Flat Rock High School in Hendersonville in 1954 and Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina.  After graduation, she moved to central Florida to begin teaching science to middle school and senior high school students.  She met John H. Higdon and was married on July 23, 1966, in Hendersonville. The young couple made their residence in Merritt Island, Florida, where Betty continued to teach until her retirement. Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband to Niagara Falls, Alaska, Hawaii, and various states. Many Christmas and summer vacations were spent visiting family and friends in North Carolina. She attended Grace Methodist Church in Merritt Island and several Grief Share groups after the death of her husband on October 23, 2014.

          In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Rodney Duncan, her other brother, Steven Duncan, and his wife, Hazel.  She is survived by  nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

          A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Grace Methodist Church located at 65 Needle Street, Merritt Island, Florida, in the chapel at 10:30.
