Aurelia Garong was born in the Philippines on October 15, 1933. In 1982, she migrated in the United States and lived in Oklahoma, California, Utah, and Florida. She went home to heaven peacefully on February 21, 2021. She lived her life through her favorite bible verse. The verse is from the Book of Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
She is preceded by her parents, Fortunato DelaCruz and Filomena Sunga; daughter Carmencita
Dayberry, grandchildren Anthony Ewing, Isaac Uncangco, and Halle Garong. She is survived by her five
daughters and their spouses: Rhoda and Robin Fisher; Brenda and Lonnie Conell; Pamela and Matthew
Brown; Cynthia and Ricky DelaRosa; Cristina and Kevin White. She is also survived by her six sons and
spouses: Noel Garong; Redentor and Edith Garong; Eric and Mayen Garong; George Garong; Harold and
Rowena Garong; and Rio and Lea Garong. She is also survived by 56 grand and great grandchildren.
Aurelia also survived by her extended “Vanilla” daughters: Linda, Sandy, Mary Beth, Michelle, Maureen,
Aileen, Patti, Joanie, and Margie and other Filipino daughters who added meaning in her life are Suzie,
Nora, Edith and Ruth.
Aurelia was the greatest mother on earth. She was loyal, resilient and determined. Education was very
important to her. She sacrificed raising her kids in order to provide for her family. As a devoted mother it
was the hardest decision she ever made but she never complained about her situation, she just worked
hard and believed God would provide, this was her ultimate act of unconditional love. From that
sacrifice, nine out of her twelve children achieved their bachelors’ degree.
She was unique and admirable. Her son-in-law, Kevin White, is an avid fisherman and said,”I never met
anyone that loves fishing more than I do!” One of her sons said, “She is Wondermom.” One of the
grandkids referred to her as an OG “Original Gangster”. Her grandkids loved to ask which one was her
favorite and her answer was always, “you are all my favorites, but...I raised you!” She was caring,
selfless and loved to cook. She showed her love by filling bellies! She enjoyed gardening and when it
time to harvest she shared it all. She was known for candidly speaking her mind. She had five sons-in-
law and she never hesitated to name her favorite. You may rise Mr. Robin Fisher!
Aurelia Garong was an “Iconic” figure in the family and her legacy is undeniable. She was the common
ground to everyone and was the reason to be together. Whatever the occasion, idea, or purpose, it made
sense if it was for her. She lived her life with integrity, honesty, and humility. She gave all glory to God
and thanked him every morning, at every meal, and every night for the blessings she had been given.
She was everyone’s favorite, yet we were all her favorites. She loved us all and we all loved her.
Life is all about loving God and loving others – it really is as simple as that!
