Athena ”Tina” Antoniou of Rockville, MD. Beloved wife of the late Constantinos “Dino” Antoniou; loving and devoted mother of two sons, Paul and Peter (Stephanie) Antoniou; and two daughters Eleni Antoniou and Christina Sardelis (Thomas, Jr.); cherished grandmother "yiayia" of Costa, Athena, Aleko, Caitlin, Dino, and Christopher; beloved sister of Ernest Chionopoulos; and dear daughter of the late Christ and Helen Chionopoulos.
Athena was a proud mother with a huge heart, deep faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and fond love for her family. Born in 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts, Athena was raised in and around the Boston area. She was a graduate of the Palmer Method of Business Writing Vocational School and The Miss Allen Boston Modeling and Finishing School. She worked at Avco as a receptionist and traveled to Miami Beach multiple times and then to Europe before meeting Dino in her hometown of Boston. They were married and later moved to Florida where she raised her family in Titusville. Athena was a loving mother who raised her four children at home and also worked with Dino at their family restaurant, Dino’s Spaghetti House. In later years, she worked at the Kennedy Space Center as a configuration management specialist.
Athena was a committed Greek Orthodox Christian whose faith and love for our Lord Jesus Christ was first in her heart and soul. She taught her children to serve God and the church in many ways. With no Greek Orthodox parish close by, she traveled to Orlando’s Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (50 miles from home) with her children where they were baptized and attended Sunday school. Later they attended Saint Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Melbourne where her boys served in the altar and the family participated in community faith and fellowship activities. Athena was also active in Saint Simeon’s Orthodox Church in Titusville, and most recently at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC. May her memory be eternal.
A visitation will be held at North Brevard Funeral Home from 5-7pm Tuesday January 7, 2020. Services will be at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church at 12:30pm on Wednesday, January 8th. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Titusville.
