Winifred Ella O’Dowd Walker (nee Salmon) died peacefully at home on August 12th, 2017 in Titusville, FL at the age of 83.

Winifred is survived by her children, Shaun O’Dowd, Scott Walker and wife Lisa, Linda Ellis, John Walker and Deborah Goode. Grand Children, Travis O’Dowd, Meagan O’Dowd, Courtenay Walker, Caleb Walker, Akash Ellis, and Matthew Goode, 7 great grandchildren, siblings, Joan Slater - Scholtens of Crossville, Tenn., and Judy Funderburk Salmon of Salem, Mass. She is preceded in death by husbands Major James Hughes O’Dowd (USAF) of New York, Major William Edwin Walker (USAF) of Alabama and partner Jerry Taylor of Michigan, Son Timothy O’Dowd of Titusville, and Grandson Dustin Goode of Georgia.

Winifred was born on September, 2nd, 1933 in Mollinsburn, Glasgow Scotland to Richard and Elizabeth Salmon. She was raised near London England during World War II and as a child experienced events during the Battle of Britain.  She married James O’Dowd in 1952 and spent her 19th birthday celebrating her honeymoon on the French Riviera. This loving marriage produced 2 beautiful sons Shaun and Timothy. After Jim’s death Winifred married William Walker in 1962 and became step mother to Linda, John and Debbie. After sometime Winifred and William welcomed a new addition their beloved son Scott into the family. William passed in 1977 and several years later she met Jerry Taylor, they remained loving partners until his passing in 2009. Winifred was a devoted mother and loved all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.

Winifred was an exceptionally talented knitter making many wonderful articles of clothing to include afghans, baby sweaters and blankets for all her friends and loved ones. She taught knitting at Brevard Community College and was the owner of the Yarn Shop located in Titusville on highway 50 and later at the Gaslight Mall in Old Downtown Titusville. She very much enjoyed singing Karaoke and was praised regularly for her lovely voice and her English accent. In her early years she traveled throughout Europe and to Africa.  Winifred was very proud of her British heritage and loved cooking British favorites such as Sheppard’s pie, Yorkshire pudding and Scottish shortbread.

A celebration of life is scheduled for November 11th, 2017 at 1610 Banana Drive, Titusville, FL, details will be forthcoming and an event will be posted on Facebook.
