Geraldine Virginia Hancock Polk

Geraldine was born in Nashville, TN to William Hancock and Addie Mae Douglas. She attended Wiberforce University, in Wilberforce, Ohio obtaining her bachelors degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, she returned to Nashville to work at Tennessee State University as a payroll administrator and eventually returned to her alma mater McReynolds High School, where she found her lifetime calling as a teacher. Although Geraldine had lived most of her childhood in South Pittsburgh Tennessee, she spent summers in Nashville where she met Thomas Marion Polk. They were married in 1952 and started a family in 1954 with their only child, Thomas Darryl Polk. After her husband’s untimely death in 1960, Geraldine and son left Nashville and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where she continued teaching until retiring in 1988. Geraldine then moved to Titusville, Florida in 1990 where she worked as a librarian in the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center and later in Brevard County Library system. Geraldine was very active in St. Gabriel’s church, where she was well loved by friends and all who knew her. Geraldine is survived by her only son, Thomas Darryl Polk, beloved family member Olivia Polk, and two granddaughters Jennifer and Donna.
