Barbara “Bobbi” Upthegrove

1939-2017

With a dazzling smile, golden hair and twinkling eyes, Bobbi lit up the world with her radiant personality. She had impeccable taste, a wicked golf swing and a joyous laugh.

After courageously battling multiple ailments for years, Bobbi passed away April 26. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 62 years, Ed, fondly known as “Sugar” and their three children; Ken, Gwen and Tim.

Bobbi was also “Nana” to seven grandchildren and “Aunt Bobbi” to seven nieces and nephews.

Born April 22, 1939 in Lake Worth, Florida, Bobbi and her kid sister, Joanie, were raised by their single mom, Mabel Merchant, and faced many hardships. But Bobbi overcame those struggles and met Ed, the man who would change her life, while attending Lake Worth High School.

After marrying on October 28, 1955, Ed and Bobbi started raising their family and launched their first of many small businesses.

In the early 1960’s, the Upthegrove family moved to Titusville, eventually settling in a two-story home overlooking the golf course at Royal Oak Country Club. They lived in that house for over a half century.

Besides shopping, golfing and cooking, Bobbi loved socializing with friends, managing the books for the family business and tending to her grandchildren. She was also a devoted member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church and frequently attended services.  She participated in the Senior Ministries and loved sharing her exquisite cooking with her fellow members at several events.

Bobbi was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years.  She enjoyed her fellow sisters and the work they have done for the community.

Generous and kind, Bobbi had a giving heart. So, it was ironic that her heart gave out in her early forties – her first heart attack - and the beginning of many health issues.

Sidelined by a stroke in 2000, Bobbi never let being confined to a scooter stand between her and a good time. She and Ed traveled to California twice and even made it to Maui in 2005. Bobbi sometimes ventured on the dance floor, moving to the music by throttling her scooter back and forth.

Bobbi loved living life so much that she often lost track of time, frequently showing up late for appointments. It was known as “Bobbi Time.”

Ultimately, time did catch up with Bobbi and her rich life ended too short at 78 years young. She will be deeply missed.
